Regional Success for MAN Commercial at BSIA Awards

Two of our long serving Security Officers were nominated by the Company this year for the Annual British Security Association Awards (BSIA) thanks to their outstanding performance. Both officers regularly go the extra mile and are extremely well thought of here at MAN so we really wanted to recognise them on a wider scale, in honour of our 25th year.im-2.jpg

Allan Morris was put forward in the category of Service to the Customer. This stemmed from Allan receiving a huge amount of positive feedback from our clients, praising his high level of Customer Service and his dedication to going above and beyond for the needs of both the client and the public.

The second officer we chose to nominate is Imran Nazir, a member of the MAN Commercial Protection Ltd Security Team that works on the Birmingham City Council Car Parks. Imran was nominated in the category of Outstanding Act.

On shift one early morning, Imran received a call asking him to attend Pershore Street Car Park in the city centre as a young man had been observed dangling his legs over the edge of the rooftop level of the car park.

Imran attended site and called out to the young man to let him know that he was there, telling him that life was too short and suggested that the young man came over to talk to him.

At first the young man was unresponsive saying that he was happy where he was; Imran persisted and asked him to repeat what he had said as he couldn’t hear him. Imran repeated that life was too short and if he came to talk to him first and then decided to go ahead with taking his own life he wouldn’t stop him. The young man gradually moved away from the edge and started to talk to Imran. The young man explained that he had lost his job and was in debt and he could see no other way out. It was at this point that Imran noticed there was blood running down the man’s hands and he calmly asked him if he wanted him to call him an ambulance.

Imran stayed calm and continued to talk to the young man; sharing some of his own experiences and offering ways in which to deal with things. He offered both practical help, such as contacting the loan company for support, and shared some of his own experiences having previously lost his own job after 12 years, staying positive and focused on getting a new job had led him on to becoming a Security Officer – a job he truly loves.

When the Police arrived one of the Officers shook Imran’s hand and told him he had done very well and that he had undoubtedly “saved a life today”.

Following the submission of our nominations, everyone at MAN was delighted when the BSIA contacted us with the news that both Imran and Allan had been awarded Regional Winner awards in their respective categories.im-1.jpg

Andrew Cooper from the BSIA visited our Head Office to present both officers with their certificates. We held a mini-ceremony in our training room with lots od the team present; everyone was so proud of the officer’s achievements.

Due to their success at the regional ceremony, both officers put through to the BSIA Annual National Awards, which took place in London on 11thJuly 2018. Allan and Imran attended with some of our Management Team, and a fantastic day was had by all.

Imran said of his nomination “I am very honoured to have received this regional award, I believe this is a lesson learned and that is dear to me. Loyalty and commitment are the attributes that I aspire to and I believe in going the extra mile, and giving 110% in my work. I also have learned with experience that any obstacles or problems can be overcome, with fairness and being proactive in achieving any goal.  I am committed to delivering an excellent service on behalf of Man Commercial. I try my best to deliver the best service for my employer and have a can-do attitude with whatever the situation that may arise during my working day and work to the highest standard.  This award is an outstanding achievement for me personally and I would like to thank MAN for putting me forward.  I also would also like to thank my supervisor Abraham and the whole MAN commercial team for putting me where I am now. May the success continue for MAN Commercial!”

May News

The 1st May marked the takeover of two new sites for MAN Commercial, in Oxfordshire and Birmingham, keeping up our run of new contracts starting every month this year. We were also awarded contracts due to begin in June and July, so we have begun the TUPE transfer and mobilisation processes with teams across Coventry, Walsall and the North West. To support our continued growth we have also welcomed a new National Contract Manager to our team, who is enjoying learning the ropes the MAN Commercial way!acspacesetters.png

In May we also ran an intensive Aviation Training Course for a number of our officers at our Head Office Training Centre. This course is to develop our security staff who handle airside packages,  and we were proud to achieve a 100% pass rate across the officers who trained.  We have also enrolled further staff onto Apprenticeships schemes in Team Leader, Security Manager and Customer Service qualifications.

We have been honoured and privileged this month on behalf of one of our officers Allan, who was awarded an ACS Pacesetters Officer of Distinction Award. These awards celebrate Security Officers across the UK who have performed outstanding acts or offered  exemplary service whilst working in their everyday roles. Allan was nominated by one of our clients, who send an extraordinary letter of recommendation for Allan, which had gathered over 30 signatures.

Allan and members of our Management Team headed to Windsor Racecourse for the Annual ACS presentation where a fantastic day was had by all. We also picked up the Company Pacesetters Award, which we were all delighted with.

As the Summer draws closer our already-busy events calendar is filling up, in May alone we provided services at the Rolling Stones concert in Coventry, Glastonbudget Festival, Lionel Richie shows, Championship Tennis and the World Championship Boxing at Elland Road.

April News

The first few days in April made for a very busy Easter Break here at MAN Commercial as we started a record-breaking 12 new contracts. After a lot of preparation throughout March to mobilise the various sites across the country, it was rewarding and exciting to finally take over and welcome over 100 new members of staff to our team. Our Contracts Managers and HR team have enjoyed visiting the new locations country-wide which include Entertainment Centres in Norwich, Bath and Newcastle and busy Distribution Centres in Doncaster and Middlesbrough.

Our events team have been working hard as ever, covering 3 days at Aintree Festival including the extremely busy Grand National Saturday. We have also had teams at top sporting events such as the London Marathon and the Tyson Fury Press Conferences to mark his return.

Behind the scenes we have been focusing on our continued preparation for the new GDPR regulation, as well as various other training and development. We ran a 2 day Recruitment & HR Processes course at Head Office which was a great opportunity to get Managers and Supervisors from a mixture of sites and locations together to learn and share ideas. We are also putting a big focus on utilising our Apprenticeship levy to develop our existing staff, and have signed up several of our team for higher training over the next 12 months.

MAN Commercial have also been featured in this month’s BSIA Spectrum Magazine who ran an article on our history to mark our 25th anniversary this year.

March News

The start of Spring saw busy times for our Event teams, who covered Cheltenham Festival for four sold out days mid month, amongst other national events. However, it wasn’t all sunny weather in March though, and our teams were called upon at short notice to offer support across a snowy UK.

We were delighted to host the BSIA Regional security meeting at our Midlands Head Office, which was a great opportunity to meet with our peers and discuss the latest updates in our ever-changing sector. MAN Commercial were also represented at the UKCMA AGM in Glasgow by our National Events Manager.

This month has also seen our teams prepare for new legislation, with the Gender Pay Gap Regulation and GDPR coming up soon. Our Head Office and Management teams took part in an informative GDPR training day with Global Consultants and we are now busy putting together new policies to ensure our compliance.

February News

February was another big month for growth here at MAN Commercial. Close to home, we have added two new vehicles to our Mobile Response fleet to ensure we always have a speedy response time to out of hours calls. This upgrade was especially important as February also saw an increase in our Key Holding contracts managed from Head Office.

Further afield, we have mobilised new guarding contracts across the UK, in areas including Cambridge, Norwich, London and the West Midlands. Our largest new contract addition at the end of February was in Warrington, where we welcomed 15 new staff members to our team.
