MAN Commercial work at the #BattleoftheBaddest for Queensberry Promotions over in Saudi Arabia!
Last week, a team of six MAN Commercial Event Security experts headed over to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia!
Although not the first time MAN Commercial have worked internationally (worldwide tours with music stars were a huge part of our story back in the 1990’s) the clash of Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was an extremely special occasion! Thanks to our long-term relationship with our valued clients Queensberry Promotions, our team was asked to travel out to Saudi to provide personal security to world-famous boxing promoter Frank Warren and his team, as well as supporting the various other security operations, including working closely with Lyons Den Security who look after Tyson Fury.
Our team of experienced professionals have over 200 years of combined security knowledge and expertise in the events sector, specifically sports and boxing. Heading up the team was MAN Commercial CEO Iain McCallister, joined by Events Manager Scott Broadway and Event Supervisors Jason, Scott, Colin and Dominic.
After arriving in Saudi, it was straight to work from the airport, with the team in place at the media outdoor work-outs, which were a key fixture of the pre-fight build up. The team assisted with crowd control and safety of the fighters and the public. Thursday was press conference day, with our team needed to secure the stage area. Friday was the fighter’s weigh-ins. “The MAN Commercial team were assisting with securing the stage area, and we worked closely with local security and Lyons Den to ensure there were no issues,” said Scott Broadway, “Iain focused on providing personal security to Frank Warren and the Queensberry team.”
Saturday arrived and Fight Night was finally here! “There are a lot of pre-event meetings and planning meetings that take place,” said Iain McCallister, “It is crucial that all security working on an event like this follow meticulous plans and familiarise themselves with the venue. We were working closely with Lyons Den Security and the local companies on seating plans, and securing the backstage and front of house areas. My team communicated with all promotors and their teams to ensure a seamless, smooth event.”
“At the planning meetings during the day, we were all allocated our areas of responsibility,” said Scott. “Iain and the rest of our team provided close protection for the undercard athletes, and walked out the fighters. I was positioned ringside, controlling and incidents or seating issues, and making sure all the media were where they should be.”
When it was time for the main event, Iain was ringside protecting Frank Warren, while the rest of the team supported ringside security. Only accredited staff could enter the ring due to weight restrictions, with Iain called in post-fight, when a victorious Tyson Fury faced-off with his likely next opponent, Oleksandr Usyk!
Our team of professionals remained on duty after the fight until the venue was completely clear, ensuring everyone left safely. After a long shift, it was then straight to the airport for an early flight back to the UK!
The team saw lots of familiar faces and friends from the UK security circuit, as well as some major celeb-spotting, with huge stars of boxing, football, UFC, WWE and music in attendance. Some celebrity attendees included Cristiano Ronaldo, Conor McGregor, Eminem, Mike Tyson and Kanye West.
When asked about their highlight of the week, both Iain and Scott had similar answers; “When it was all over and we could look back on a successful event!” said Iain, “We are always delighted when an event has gone without any issues and we can be proud of the input we had and what the team have achieved. And now we are looking forward to getting involved with and planning the next big one!” With the Tyson Fury Vs Oleksandr Usyk bout being touted for the end of the year back in Riyadh, there’s a lot to look forward to!

This week (15th – 19th May) is Mental Health Awareness week and we wanted to shine the spotlight on Walk Talk Action, one of the 5 fantastic charities we are raising funds for during our 30th anniversary year.
We spoke to Teri Elder, founder of the charity, to find out more.
Hi, Teri! Can you tell us about the work Walk Talk Action does?
Walk Talk Action is a charitable organisation that is ultimately here to deliver skills, knowledge and opportunities to those that are ready to make a change in life. We have an extensive network of professionals and organisations that we have built strong relationships with, and we make connections on behalf of people struggling with their mental health. We help them to overcome a fear, or get back into employment or education.
We set up walks to get people outside of the four walls, enjoy nature, and to have time to reset. We offer different activities ranging from kayaking/canoeing, to coffee mornings to equine therapy and mindfulness. We also take people out of their comfort zones to see people’s true potential.
Sounds brilliant! What was it that inspired you to set up Walk Talk Action?
I set up Walk Talk Action to help people struggling in life get back to a better state of mind through literally walking, talking and taking action!
I’m a mum and step mum of 4, and I have suffered with my own mental health including PTSD, anxiety and postnatal depression. I’m a qualified Outdoor Educator, Mental Health coordinator, mentor and have served in the British Armed forces as a combat medic. I left my job as a high dependency ambulance driver to set up WTA and have helped over 500 people back into education, employment or overcome a fear. Helping people has ultimately helped me with my mental health and I feel passionate about finding out people’s talents and helping them to succeed.
What are you hopes for Walk Talk Action in the future?
We have a base now after 4 years. A lot of work is still needed but it’s become our retreat and place we can deliver all the workshops including our specialist 10 Step Programme, which covers the whole journey of a person being at rock bottom to then succeeding on their journey.
We hope to eventually have retreats set up all over the UK to encourage and motivate more people that are struggling with their mental health, to reassure them that you can become what you truly want to become! It all starts with a listening ear, a Walk, a Talk and then Actions put into place in order to make those changes and be happier in life.
What would Walk Talk Action aim to do with the funds raised by MAN Commercial at the end of this year?
The funds raised would help WTA immensely we always have new projects starting to help people on the 10 Step Program to achieve their goals. Our cabin at the retreat needs repainting and a pathway putting in. Ultimately it would help with reaching more people struggling and us to provide the support and opportunities they need.

They have recently supported the police investigations to identify suspects in a stabbing, have dealt with 2 firearms offences and have had to deal with a death. All of these things are way over and above their expected duty, yet they keep managing to deal with every single situation put in front of them as individuals but most importantly as a team.”
