We are proud to announce that our security team at The Brewery Shopping Centre in Romford has been named the London winner for Customer Service Excellence at the prestigious British Security Industry Awards.
The 13-strong team was recognised for its exceptional professionalism and customer service at the busy mixed-use destination, which welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors every year.
Judges praised the team for its outstanding communication and teamwork, highlighting the officers’ ability to seamlessly transition between crime prevention, emergency response, public reassurance and partnership working.
The award reflects the team’s continual focus on creating a safe and welcoming environment for visitors, retailers and the wider community.
MAN Commercial Protection CEO Iain McCallister visited the team to personally present their awards on behalf of the British Security Industry Association.
Speaking about the achievement, Iain said:
“Our officers go out of their way to keep The Brewery safe, which is noted in every monthly mystery shopper report, meaning the community enjoys visiting the centre. This award is a fantastic recognition of the professionalism, teamwork and commitment shown by every member of the team.”
One of the incidents highlighted during the judging process involved a major police pursuit near the shopping centre. Security officers quickly identified an active police car chase entering the vicinity and maintained vigilance and situational awareness across the site. Following the suspect abandoning their vehicle and attempting to flee on foot, one officer successfully intercepted and detained the individual before safely handing them over to police.
The judges also recognised the team’s ability to balance enforcement with safeguarding and welfare considerations, particularly when the suspect later required urgent medical attention.
Stuart Wilson, Centre Manager at The Brewery Shopping Centre, praised the team’s contribution, saying:
“Our MAN Commercial security team, supported by our excellent in-house managers, are the face of the centre, the lifeblood of its operation and we wouldn’t be able to operate effectively with anyone else. We cannot speak highly enough of them and they richly deserve their award.”
Following their regional success, the team will now go forward to compete for the national Customer Service title at the British Security Industry Awards, taking place at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London this June.
