CRIMINALS BEWARE: CCTV CATCHES UP WITH YOU ON THE BUSES

A nationwide security provider which manages the CCTV system of Centro – the integrated transport authority for the West Midlands – has helped bring a number of offenders to justice.

Centro partners with MAN Commercial Protection which provides the team to monitor its extensive CCTV system of over 1000 cameras.  Control room operators have improved performance over the last 18 months.  They have recently spotted and provided evidence to bring about the arrest of several offenders on convictions varying from assault to drug dealing.

Sergeant Adrian Brown from the Safer Travel team at West Midlands Police, says: “High definition CCTV footage often identifies offenders so clearly that they are recognisable beyond all reasonable doubt.  We have made some significant arrests as a direct result of working in partnership with Centro’s CCTV room.”

“Bus travel is very safe these days and offences are few and far between.  Your risk of being the victim of crime is just one in every 126,000 bus journeys you take – that’s the equivalent of 525 years of commuting for five days a week. We are working to make that even rarer,” says Mark Babington, Safer Travel manager from Centro.

“We have CCTV all around our network:  at bus and rail stations, bus stops, park and ride sites – all supplemented by mobile CCTV – which is a tremendous asset for the police to detect and catch criminals as they move around.  It’s all part of our policy to keep our buses safe and pleasant to travel on at all times,” says Michael Sayers, Centro’s CCTV lead.

Iain McCallister, founder of the 600-strong team at MAN Commercial Protection, adds: “It’s the vigilance of CCTV operators that provides, not only a powerful deterrent, but also the precious evidence the Police need to convict offenders.  No matter how smart the facial recognition software, an operator needs to be permanently alert to take the appropriate steps to either bring about an arrest or ensure CCTV recordings are optimised.

“That’s difficult throughout a long shift when nothing generally happens.  Great CCTV operators have a sort of sixth sense.  They recognise when something is not quite right which makes them look again and that’s often how we help catch criminals.”

khan.jpgIt was Hello!’s biggest wedding when Amir and Faryal Khan married in Bolton on Sunday 23 June 2013 safeguarded by MAN Commercial Protection.

Amir’s father, Shah Khan, wrote to thank the MAN team: “Thank you for the excellent service you provided for Amir and Faryal’s wedding last weekend. Your staff did their jobs brilliantly without interfering or getting in the way of proceedings.  All your personnel were extremely respectful of the occasion and the guests that attended, ensuring things sailed smoothly from start to finish. Well done on a very good job.”

“We’ve looked after Amir since he turned pro in 2004 so we know the family and many of the friends which was useful to ensure only invited guests came in,” says Iain McCallister founder, owner and managing director of MAN.

In what was the groom’s first trip in a helicopter, the couple flew in from Bolton Wanderers football stadium to Event City Manchester for the wedding banquet.

“The only thing I asked for was a cake and it’s huge,” said Amir.  The 14ft iced and vanilla buttercream sponge came complete with an Arabic fountain.

“The security wasn’t a piece of cake,” says McCallister. “Apart from ‘manning up’ to crowd control 3,500 guests, there were £100,000 of jewellery gifts and a dozen super cars to be guarded as well as an amazing Bollywood display including dance troops, musicians.”

Shah Khan, Amir’s father said his advice to Amir on matrimony was this.  “Be honest, trust one another, spend time together and be happy.”

Iain McCallister said, “Not such a bad recipe for business as well as a marriage.”

Birmingham Library Opening September

The Central Birmingham Library project is due to be opened in September. MAN Commercial have worked with the chief contractor Carillion throughout the whole project and continue to do so.

The Central Birmingham Library project is due to be opened in September. MAN Commercial have worked with the chief contractor Carillion throughout the whole project and continue to do so.

We recently received this testimonial from Carillion which we thought newsworthy!

“We have used the services of MAN Commercial Protection for the last 3 and a half years during the construction of the new Library of Birmingham. We have always found the service to be professional, helpful and friendly, and all of our additional requests have been fully accommodated throughout the project, often at short notice.

The Management Team have contributed positively to the organisation of a number of events that affect how the site has been run. These include site work which has had to move outside of the site boundaries (i.e. tower crane erection and dismantle). Also, outside events which are not part of the site, but which have affected site works and security for a number of days, i.e. Political Party Conferences that have taken place in the adjacent Birmingham International Convention Centre

The security guards are always punctual, look presentable in their MAN Commercial uniforms and carry the appropriate identification – they have been an asset to what has often been an extremely demanding project and I would have no hesitation in using them again on future projects.

Thank you for helping to make the Library of Birmingham Project a success!!”
