Hall green amateur boxing club started out in 2000 from hall green college in Birmingham. We stayed at the college for 2 years and then we moved to a run down building above a MOT garage in Digbeth near the city centre where we stayed until December 2006.
In January 2007 we moved in to our new gym in Spring Road, Tyseley. Birmingham city council had given us a dilapidated building to serve as our new gym on a ten year lease. We became a registered charity and were given some NRF funding to do the building up to our best of our ability. However we still need a new roof and the out side of the building needs to rendered to stop the damp coming through.
We open 5 nights a week from 5.30pm to 9.00pm and have 3 ABA registered boxing coach’s who work on a voluntary basis. We are fast becoming one the finest and most accomplished amateur boxing clubs in Birmingham (some would even say the country)
Since 2000 we have won over 70 midland area titles, 15 national titles, 5 young boxers representing England, 2 university titles plus a number of other boxers represented club and country abroad, a 2006 Commonwealth champion in Australia, an Olympian in 2008 and most of all we were the first club to produce the first ever British boxer to win the world amateur boxing championship in Chicago 2007 in our very own Frankie Gavin.
This has been a very hard job to do as we only have one vehicle to get us to and from fights and championships all over the country. We need some help to keep us going forward and move us as a club to bigger and better things. The only way we could do this was to find and bring somebody in with experience in this field.
After meeting Iain I knew straight away he was the man to make hall green the biggest club in the country his knowledge and passion for boxing is second to none the people he knows from to boxing fraternity and the business world can only make us a much bigger and better club.
MAN commercial have become the main sponsors of hall green boxing club and Iain has agreed to become our chairman. I know he will do all he can to make Hall Green Boxing Club the best boxing club in the country. – Tommy Chaney
